The first section of my portfolio is my Concentration. I centered all of the following peices around a general idea. As you can see, they all have people incorporated in to them in different ways, because I wanted to portray different human emotions. I like to work mostly with Water Colors and Acrylics. I'll try to explain most of the peices and how I came up with them as well.
"A Shaky Path to Happiness" |
|
18X24 Water Color |
The point I was trying to make with this peice is that there is opportunity all around us. There are very hard paths to travel to get there, but if we want it bad enough, we will chase after our dreams. The colored shapes represent the "opportunity." They are rounded and very colorful. The pathway is very jagged and the colors are toned down, to show the hardships along the way. I left the figures without color because they are not comple yet. He has not decided which "color" his life will be yet.
Beach Scene |
|
18X24 Acrylic |
This peice was derrived from a picture of my sister, taken on the beach in the Bahama's. I really liked the composition in where everything was placed. I altered the colors and added a few more changes, to come up with this.
"We Share Our Sorrow" |
|
10X15 Water Color |
The name sums it up in this peice. The figures all look very similar and are continued off of the page. All are oppossites in color, to sybolize the difference of all our backgrounds. Their expressions are sad. The continueation of this feeling shows us that although we feel like we are alone with our problems, there is always somebody else who knows what you are going through.
"Untitled" |
|
18X24 Acrylic and Ink |
I am going to talk more about how I came up with this one, than the actual meaning. I started with a painting gone bad, and covered it with ink splashes. Once it dried I painted over it with some thinned out acrylic. On top of that I put a blue side profile of a person in an ink drop, and it randomly looked like the muscles in the face were there. The full peice is not show in this picture. It was a GREAT mistake!
"Who I am today" |
|
18X24 Water Color |
In this painting I tried to reproduce a path of how I have changed over the years. It goes through different stages of my life. In the grass I tried to show how music, art, and love, have made me who I am today (-;
"As She Walks" |
|
18X24 Water Color |
This one is pretty much self explanitory, so I'll let you just figure it out....
"In to the Unknown" |
|
18X24 Colored Pencil |
Portrays a sense of mischeif... The figure is walking from the dark to the light, and you cant help but wonder where he is going....
"untitled" |
|
18X24 Water Color |
This is just a play of colors. I just wanted to mess around with some brighter tones. A lot of people told me she looks like Julia Roberts. I dont remember that being intentional.
"We Became One" |
|
10X15 Water Color |
This is based off of a picture of my girlfriend and I. I wanted to show a bonding of a deeper connection between us. I merged the faces together in the kiss, because I feel as though we are both very close to eachother, in mind. Love you Robyn!
"We Only Come Out At Night" |
|
10X15 Cut out Water Color Paper |
This peice was something I did to create a similar effect to Mattisse's cut paper works. I painted sheets of paper in solid water color and cut them out in to various shapes. The clouds in the sky closely resemble the trees on the ground. The figures come out of all the cracks and even fall from the sky. Its just a fun little peice and I enjoyed making it.
"Closer Together" |
|
15X24 Colored Pencil |
The figures are all done in the 3 primary colors. It is a couple in their progression to each other. Just a quick little scketch idea that turned in to a somewhat finished work. Will probably build off of this idea in future peices.
"Bar Scene" |
|
18X24 Water Color |
This is an unfinished art work, but what I am trying to get at with this one. Is a feeling of expressing yourself without being heard. The guitar player is playing to the backs of others in the bar. Nobody seems to listen or care that he is even there.
